2011 was a real high as OKKU won three awards at the Caterer Middle East Awards 2011, taking home ‘Restaurant of the Year,’ ‘Chef of the Year and ‘Bartender of the Year as well as claiming ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant’ at the Ahlan! Best in Dubai Awards 2011 and ‘Best Japanese’ for the TimeOut Dubai Restaurant Awards 2011 for the third year in a row.
Career low:
There are always ups and downs in any career, but I don’t let there be any ‘lows’ I simply see anything negative as another challenge that can be turned around and made into something positive.
What are your plans for the next year:
We’re opening four new OKKU venues internationally as well as rolling out some exciting new concepts including two CLAW crab shack and grill’s, a brand new day and night club at a very prestigious Dubai address and rolling out three more Sophie’s concepts, which is a home-grown gastro-café serving fresh and natural home-style cuisine.
What was the biggest break of your career:
Dedication, hard work and focus have all given me my big breaks. Putting energy and love into everything that I do has driven my career and helped me get to where I am today.
What are you most proud of in your career:
The loyalty of my employees and customers.
What advice would you give to people keen to progress in the industry:
Work hard, be honest and put love into everything that you do!
